SNIP is the new Microsoft screen capture tool for Windows. Use Microsoft SNIP to take and annotate over screenshots or create screen capture videos with annotation and voice recording. Share work via email or uploading to a storage/share site such as OneNote/OneDrive or Google Drive/Google Classroom.

Microsoft SNIP Instructions
SNIP is loaded on all student Lenovo devices.Teachers with Lenovo computers will need to download Microsoft SNIP - __https://mix.office.com/Snip__
Search for SNIP
  • Type SNIP in the search bar at the BOTTOM left of your screen.
  • Click on the SNIP icon.

SNIP Toolbar * The SNIP toolbar allows quick access to Screen Capture, Whiteboard, and Webcam Picture features.

Using SNIP Screen Capture

  • Click the Screen Capture icon on the SNIP toolbar.

  • Click and drag the crosshair tool (red plus sign) over the area or image to be captured.

  • The image will appear in the Snip Editor.

  • Use the edit toolbar to choose pen, highlighter, ink color, eraser, or recorder, as needed.

Using SNIP Whiteboard

  • Click the Whiteboard icon in the SNIP editor.

  • A window will appear with a blank whiteboard space.

Using the SNIP Webcam

  • Click the camera icon on the SNIP toolbar.

  • The computer webcam will open and engage. Click the camera icon near the webcam image to capture the image.

  • The image will open in a SNIP Editor window with all editing toolbar features for annotating and
  • recording over the image.

Saving and Sharing SNIPs

  • The SNIP Share and Save tools are at the top right of the SNIP editor window.
  • Copy - saves the image to the clipboard
  • Share - allows for emailing or sending to OneNote.
*These tools only work if the email program or OneNote have already been set up for a student)
  • Save - allows the user to name the image or video and save it to a specific place on the computer.
  • Library - all SNIP images and videos are automatically saved to the SNIP Library.
*Note - this library is specific to each computer and profile. Items stored in Library are only available
when a student logs on to the computer and profile on which they were created.

Pictures and videos created in SNIP can be attached to an email or uploaded to a storage/sharing site,
such as Google Drive/Google Classroom.



Helpful Hints

  • Shortcuts for Opening SNIP
    • Snip can be added to the task bar and opened by clicking on the icon in the task bar.
    • It can also be opened by clicking the PrintScreen (PrtSc) key on the keyboard.
